Ward 4 All Candidates Meeting

The Upper Rideau Lake Association (URLA) is hosting an “All Candidates Meeting” (ACM), on October 10th, starting at 9:00 am in the North Crosby Community Centre. 

This event will give Rideau Lakes’ residents an opportunity to hear directly from the people who are seeking to represent them in Ward 4, North Crosby-Newboro.

"Decisions by our next Rideau Lakes Council will fundamentally affect the health of our lakes and our communities themselves," John McDowell, URLA President explained. "On October 10th, each candidate can tell us where they stand on lake health policy issues and other municipal policies affecting our Ward. This will help people make an informed choice when they vote later this fall.”

There are five candidates running for Mayor of Rideau Lakes, and four candidates running for the two Councillor positions in our Ward 4.  

Ask questions and share your concerns

The meeting will provide an opportunity for candidates to hear residents' concerns as well as for residents to learn about the candidates' experience, priorities and approach to governing.

URLA members are strongly committed to protecting the water quality of the Upper Rideau Lake. We will ask candidates several policy questions related to preserving the water quality of the Upper Rideau (and other lakes), now and for the future. 

There will also be an opportunity for attendees to pose their own written questions on other important policy issues.

The ACM will also be an opportunity to remind everyone of the importance of voting, and of ensuring that residents – especially seasonal residents – are registered to vote.  Find out more about voting for full-time and seasonal residents here. 

Make an informed decision before you vote

The URLA is strictly non-partisan.  We will not take a position on whether to support one or more candidate(s).  The meeting will help to highlight candidates’ respective positions on policy issues directly affecting the health of our lake (and other important local issues), so voters can make an informed decision.

The URLA has hosted similar all-candidates’ meetings in 2014 and 2018.  These meetings were constructive, well attended, and contributed to our local election. 

We hope that you will attend this meeting on October 10, to again help contribute to an informed election later this fall.
